Winter School Theme: Exploring the Universe with South Africa’s World-Class
Observatories

Max number of participants: 50 students
This one-day Astronomy/Astrophysics Winter School will introduce participants to current research in cosmology, galaxy evolution, radio astronomy, and machine learning in astrophysics. The programme will highlight South Africa’s flagship facilities — SALT and MeerKAT — demonstrating how optical and radio data are processed and analysed to address fundamental questions about the structure and evolution of the Universe. A special seminar on the Breakthrough Listen initiative will showcase MeerKAT’s contribution to the search for extraterrestrial life.
