Description

Python has become the most popular programming language worlwide, also because of the AI boom. Many computational physicists use it frequently.
I have used it for my computational tasks since the early 2000's, when it was an "exotic" language.
However to develop and build Python packages in a reliable, professional way we need a number of different tools for isolation, initialization, installation, building and distribution.
In more detail we have to:
- Isolate projects from each other using virtual Python environments to prevent version clashes etc.
- initialize a package
- install our required modules into the chosen environment
- build the package for distribution
- upload the packages to PyPI. Before the advent of uv one had to use many seperate tools for these requirements.
- The relatively new (2024) tool uv combines all of the above functionalities in one tool and, since written in rust, it is extremely fast.
- In this talk I will give a tutorial for uv using one of my python projecs and also present results of calculations to solve the 2D Schroedinger Equation for the harmonic Oscillator using wavelets.
