Description
Few-body systems near the Efimov limit exhibit universal, model-independent properties governed by only a few physical scales, especially when the interactions can be treated in the zero-range limit. Such a physical regime can be realized in weakly bound nuclear systems, and in such cases universality is associated to correlations between observables that form model-independent limit cycles, which will be also exemplified in cold atomic systems. In particular, Weakly bound neutron halos are found in unstable exotic nuclei near the drip line that are by now well established. In the case of a core plus two neutrons, e.g., 6He, 11Li, 14Be, 19B, and 22C, the dilute halo allows these systems to be understood in terms of universal properties dominated by a few physical scales, such Universality in few-body nuclear physicsUniversality in few-body nuclear physicsUniversality in few-body nuclear physicsas the large scattering lengths, low-lying resonances, and the two-neutron separation energy. The next challenge is the investigation of neutron halos with four neutrons. This will be qualitatively illustrated by representative cases such as core plus four neutrons, where again only a few physical scales are expected to dominate the structure and properties of such nuclei.
