Description
Solar cells being a clean and renewable energy source help achieve SDG number 7; Affordable and clean energy. The recent solar energy developments are quantum dots, nanomaterials, and perovskite solar cells. Perovskite solar cells have attracted the attention of researchers due to their exemplary high-power conversion efficiencies and numerous advantages over other solar cell generation. It uses perovskite-structured light absorbers for its photovoltaic work. An example of a material that has been used as a perovskite active layer is FASnI3.For tunability of the band gap and enhancing stability, this can be doped with halide materials or tin dope with other materials like germanium. In this research work, FASnI3 was doped with bromine for substitution of one iodide atom to give FASnI2Br. This was done by synthesizing the desired compound through a solution-based technique. This was followed with characterization for structural by use of X-ray diffraction and optical characterization using UV-vis. The results obtained indicated perovskite structure, high absorption, and a wider bandgap. In comparison to the bandgap of FASnI3, it was concluded that doping FASnI3 with bromine widens the band gap. The perovskite solar device was fabricated and the characterized using solar simulator. Maximum PCE obtained was 3.57% and being a new tin based material, this is a significant value that can improve in future after identifying areas of improvements.
