Description
The study of nuclear reactions involving weakly bound nuclei provides a unique opportunity to investigate the interplay between direct reaction mechanisms and fusion near the Coulomb barrier. In particular, breakup, nucleon transfer, inelastic excitation, and fusion may compete and influence one another, making these systems an important testing ground for models of heavy-ion reaction dynamics.
In this talk, I will present recent experimental and theoretical results from our research program on reactions induced by weakly bound projectiles at energies around the Coulomb barrier. These studies aim at a more comprehensive description of the reaction dynamics, using different reaction channels as complementary constraints on the underlying nuclear interaction.
I will also briefly introduce the Laboratório Aberto de Física Nuclear (LAFNA) at the University of São Paulo, highlighting its accelerator facilities, experimental setups and detector systems developed for charged-particle measurements. The presentation will conclude with some perspectives for future experiments, including new coincidence measurements designed to provide more exclusive information on the mechanisms governing reactions with weakly bound nuclei.
